These enriched classes also pave a potential pathway to entry into a selective high schools. There are 76 primary schools which have opportunity classes for Years 5 & 6.
The test comprises of three parts: Reading, Mathematical Reasoning & Thinking Skills.
The Opportunity Class Placement Test is held between Thursday 2 May, 2025 and Sunday 4 May, 2025.

The Opportunity Class Thinking Skills test is crafted to analyse a student's problem-solving, critical and creative thinking skills. Some foundational topics include logical reasoning, mathematical deduction, and spatial reasoning.
Thinking Skills Test Structure
Consists of 30 multiple-choice questions with a time limit of 30 minutes.
The Opportunity Class, Mathematical Reasoning component, consist of multiple-choice questions that measure your child's ability to spontaneously use mathematical skills, such as mental maths and formula recollection, to find the answer most quickly and accurately. Topic areas could include data interpretation, spatial awareness, measurements, number patterns, arithmetic, algebraic & geometric operations.
Mathematical Reasoning Test Structure
Consists of 35 multiple-choice questions with a time limit of 40 minutes.
The Opportunity Class Reading Comprehension component is a multiple-choice question that measures your child's ability to infer and interpret meaning from a passage and use problem-solving skills to find the answer. Reading passages could range from poems, novel extracts, cartoons and articles.
Reading Test Structure
Consists of 25 multiple-choice questions with a time limit of 30 minutes.
