The NAPLAN reading test consists of different types of questions that assess comprehension, analytical and reasoning skills. The text passages comprise three broad areas: imaginative (creative), informative and persuasive texts. The NAPLAN writing test consists of one writing prompt on exam day, this could either be a stimulus or quote that guides students to write either a persuasive or imaginative text. Students are only allowed to write the text type specified on exam day. There are different prompts depending on the student's year group: Year 3 and 5 receive one while Year 7 and 9 receive another (thus, a total of 2 prompts are created by ACARA per year).
